Draw Everyday : August 2014

Draw everyday

As I mentioned one of my intention last month is to draw everyday. As you can see from picture above that I miss only 9 days but I could say that I draw more than the past whole year. I also continue keeping this habit for this month. There are a lot of lesson learnt that I want to improve. I think creative habit like this is very important because it’s not only built my drawing skill but it’s also unlock my creativity and help me overcome my fears. I will share you lesson I learnt from keeping this habit later, please stay tune.

However, this post I will share you all drawing I did last month.

Craftspace Weekend : Week 36

In case you’re new here, Craftspace Weekend is a blog series I share what I have made on my weekend or how is my creative space. Since I usually work on my creative project on my weekend so I call it “Craftspace Weekend”. I have started Craftspace Weekend since april but I have not updated on English blog much. You can check out the past Craftspace Weekend in Thai here.

I took day off on Friday to go to Nakhon Pathom and sign paper for my brother. I didn’t want to go at first but then I realised that instead of doing a business and go back home, I should visit popular place and explore this city a little bit so it’s one day trip with my mom not business trip.

Craftspace Weekend : week 36

We went to Phra Pathom Chedi, the tallest stupa in Thailand. We found my mom’s favourite flower. I don’t know how it called in English, I think it’s called Gardenia. However, we called Dok Put (ดอกพุด) in Thai.

While taking photos, I found this cat.

Craftspace Weekend : week 36

On Saturday, I feel excited with Acrylic color I just bought so I cut plastic bag and use it as a canvas. Here is my first abstract art I did. I show it to my boyfriend and his said “What’s that? You did a mess again?” I feel so bad with his word but I learnt that although my work is not beautiful at all, I still enjoy painting and making art. Most important I still love my work.

Craftspace Weekend : week 36

On Sunday, I was thinking about what to do with my work. I did some research and found a lot of tutorial on how to fuse plastic. I followed instruction and here is what I got! I think I will use it as a notebook cover so I sewed and cut it to A5. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough paper it make notebook but I will do it for sure. I may use it as travel journal for Phuket trip next week or art journal this month.

Craftspace Weekend : week 36

Craftspace Weekend : week 36

I also test fabric colour to paint this bag. I was not sure what to draw so I just painted something as it’s art journal.

I feel relax and peaceful so much when I paint. I think now I know why people said that art is therapy.

Tueydori, Midori Traveler’s Notebook

To do list and planner are necessary things in my life. I need them to guide me what I need to do next. I try a lot of task managements and planners but never find one that fit my style. So I made one for myself years ago. And I always develop my system until I found bullet journal. It’s perfect way to take note and record my to do list but it’s not perfect for planning future. When I use bullet journal, my notebook is filled very quickly.

Then I found Midori Traveler’s Notebook which is a notebook that combine small notebooks in one notebook. I love this idea so much but I’m not sure that it would work perfectly for me and the price is a bit high. I use fabric instead of leather to made one for myself to try if I like it or not and call it “Tueydori” since I made it. It turn out I made at least 5 notebooks! Today I will show you 4 “Tueydori” I made.

Tueydori, Midori Traveler’s Notebook

The first notebook is white background with pink floral. I use elastic sized 2mm. to hold notebooks from MUJI.

The second one is dark blue background with floral. I made a pocket inside the cover to hold small paper and use smaller elastic. After trying various size of elastic, I think 2mm is too big and 1mm is too small to hold A6 notebooks. I’m now looking for 1.5mm elastic on online shop but can’t find. I think I need to go to market to buy it.

Tueydori, Midori Traveler’s Notebook

The third notebook I made, I use faux leather as a cover. I found it’s very hard to sew  leather. If leather is not tight enough, the line will show up.

Tueydori, Midori Traveler’s Notebook

The last notebook is notebook I currently use. It’s white background with gold floral. Since 1mm elastic is too small to hold my notebook I go back to use 2mm elastic again and cut a longer fabric to make it as a cover.

Craftspace Weekend : week33

I plan to buy more fabric from Pahurat, the largest fabric market in Bangkok, when I have a budget for that. Before that time, I have a lot of ideas to made more interesting notebook. I also thinking about give notebook that I didn’t use to my friend that asked me to make a notebook for her long time ago. I’ll update more notebook later.

Thank you for stopping by.

This week I’m overwhelmed by works and personal project that I would like to do in little time. I didn’t draw for 3 days but I did some creative work everyday. I learn one thing that making habit to do something everyday need good time & energy management too. If I draw, I’ll go to bed at mid night and wake up at 6 am which is not a good for me. I know my body clock. I know that I need to go to bed at 10pm. And it’s so tried when I’m not. I need to be better on managing my time to create this habit. I don’t know how but I know I can do it. Craftspace Weekend : Week 35 However, I decided to take a rest on this weekend by reading some books and go to bookstore (my fav activity). This time I can’t resist to buy “Think Happy, Be Happy” book. I was not even know what this book is about when I bought it. This book is full of beautiful hand lettering from many artists in very good price 300THB (10$). It’s so pleasure to spend time go through this book. This year I decide to document my story on monthly basis. I use Photo Pocket Pages Design I as cover page of each month. Each month I will put one of my favorite photo as background of that month calendar from Erika Eagle and one of my photo on my cover page because I’m not usually take a lot of photos. I think it’s fun when you see how you grown up each month from your photos.

This month I choose photo of halosun and photo of me trying to make angry face (as my boyfriend challenged me to do and it turn out very funny!)

Life in Pocket : May

Craftspace Weekend : Week 34

I feel overwhelm by things I would like to do and need to do so I wrote all down no matter how small it is. This way help me focus on what I need to do NOW instead of what I need to do next.

Craftspace Weekend : Week 34

I found that my Kindle got scratch. I think I got it when I put my Kindle on my bag. It’s very small but I’m afraid that I’m going to get more. So I made a cover for it. I still need to attach velcro to keep nicely.

Craftspace Weekend : Week 34

I also made wire straps from fabric and Washi tape.

Craftspace Weekend : Week 34

This week I started drawing and painting on postcards. I started by painting landscape and then I did some hand lettering since I take hand lettering e-course on Skillshare. It turned out very nice. I love all my works. It’s fun to writing an positive words that I hope whoever see them will be inspiring and feel good with life.

Craftspace Weekend : Week 34

Craftspace Weekend : Week 34

Every week I  share about my creative space I always feel surprise with what I have done each week. I always thought that I did nothing and I should do more. But I can list a lot of things each weeks and it seem to be longer on every time I listed too. So I would like to encourage you all to document what you have done each week. This month I’ve started “Drawing a day” to build habit of drawing everyday. I’m so happy that I can keep doing this project for almost two weeks now. I’ll write more about this project later.

Craftspace Weekend : week33

It’s a long weekend here in Thailand because August 12 is Mother’s day. Most company including my company closed on August 11 too. That made 4-day long for holiday. I didn’t have any plan until Friday night. I draw 4 box on my notebook for each day to list all I have or want to do. It become a long list than I think but I still be able to manage to do most of them.

Craftspace Weekend : week33

At first, my plan on Saturday is to learn how to cook at Dome’s apartment but I have to go to bank and Dome need to buy kitchen ware for his apartment. So we decide to go to department store first then go back to his apartment. And we cook for first time ever. We did cheese toast, chicken steak and chicken fried. Then we watch “The pursuit of happiness” and “The bucket list” while we ate our delicious food. I enjoy today so much although we was so tried  since we need to clean up apartment too!

When I got back home, I found a very happy mail from Elise was arrived. She packed her postcards nicely. Her postcards are so amazing like her. Next time I will order 2 packs so I can keep one for myself and another for sending to my friend.

Craftspace Weekend : week33

On Sunday, I spent most time making Fauxdori, the Midori traveller’s notebook style. It’s fun to design and improve what you actually use. I’ll share you about Fauxdori I made later. You will see changes on every notebook.

Craftspace Weekend : week33

My intention on Monday is to go to a park and spend time on bookstore in the afternoon for my Artist’s date. But I need to see Dome to get new keyboard so I changed plan by spending less time in both place

Craftspace Weekend : week33

I sketched landscape for first time. I drew landscape a lot when I was in art school but I was terrible at it. I always got C from my landscape drawing. I never have confident to draw it again until I finished my sketch this time. I have fun sketching it and want to do more.

So when I met Dome, we went to have a foot massage. I sketched a women do massage for me too.

Craftspace Weekend : week33

I went to bookstore and spent couple of hours. Since I have a rule not to buy any book before I read all books I have, I took photos of them and saved it to my wish list. 1000 Artist Journal Pages is the first book I will buy.

So how was your weekend?
